Key Responsibilities

•Work with Cloudflare’s Research Team to solve security, privacy, and scalable systems problems at the intersection of research and engineering.
•Develop and implement research outputs, including primitives and protocol-related work, alongside data analysis and measurement.
•Contribute to open source software development as part of research and engineering efforts.
•Participate in projects aligned to research priorities such as AI, distributed systems, privacy, and trusted execution environments.
•Engage in ongoing work throughout the internship period, including applying continuous integration and source control practices while building and debugging systems.

Key Requirements

•Show evidence of tackling hard or open-ended problems, with a track record of peer-reviewed research, open-source contributions, or standards development appropriate to your training level.
•Communicate research ideas clearly through papers, pre-prints, standards documents, blogs, or similar media.
•Ability to work in a systems-level programming language (e.g., Rust, C, Go).
•Passion for debugging and ensuring system reliability, with familiarity with continuous integration and source control (e.g., Gitlab, Github).
•Experience with at least one area such as networking protocols, ML analysis for systems/network optimization, authentication/app cryptography (PKI/SSL-TLS), distributed systems work, measurement, or scripting (e.g., Python).
