Job Summary

Lead end-to-end 3D CFD modelling for hydraulic infrastructure (dams, spillways, intakes) and analyse turbulent flows, energy losses, and cavitation to inform safe, efficient designs. Integrate CFD with physical models, produce reports and visuals for interdisciplinary teams, mentor junior modellers, and support proposals and business development. Hybrid role with Edinburgh/Belfast/Leeds offices, travel occasional.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead end-to-end 3D CFD modelling for hydraulic structures (dams, spillways, intakes, outlet works) to inform safe, efficient designs
•Analyse turbulent and transient flows, energy losses, cavitation risk, air entrainment, water-hammer effects, and scale interactions
•Integrate CFD with physical model results (calibration/validation) and translate insights into design optimisation and risk reduction
•Produce high-quality technical reports, visualisations, and client presentations for interdisciplinary teams and stakeholders
•Mentor and guide junior modellers, uphold QA standards, and contribute to scope definitions, proposals and cost estimation

Travel: Low travel

Key Requirements

•Degree (or equivalent) in civil, hydraulic, mechanical engineering or related field; Chartered engineer status or actively working towards being chartered
•Significant experience applying CFD to hydraulic structures (dams, spillways, intakes, outlet works)
•Proficiency in CFD software (Flow3D, OpenFOAM, ANSYS Fluent) and pre/post-processing tools (HEC-RAS, ICEM CFD, Paraview, Rhino/Grasshopper)
•Demonstrated ability to combine numerical and physical modelling to solve hydraulic challenges and communicate with clients
•Experience mentoring, enforcing QA, and delivering outputs aligned with regulatory/safety requirements
