Job Summary

Build workload-relevant performance models of future server CPU platforms across AMD and key competitors before silicon is available. Convert public disclosures, measured behavior, partner data, and observations into explicit assumptions with confidence levels. Calibrate models using performance counters, telemetry, and bottleneck decomposition, then communicate architecture causes, risks, and areas of advantage through peer-reviewed, reproducible narratives and diagrams.
Location: Austin
Workplace: Hybrid
Employment Type: Full time
Job Function: Architecture & Urban Planning
Seniority: Mid level

Key Responsibilities

  • •Develop comparative models of CPU front ends, execution resources, branch behavior, cache/TLB hierarchies, coherence, memory subsystems, and multi-socket/NUMA behavior.
  • •Model platform constraints and advantages (memory bandwidth/capacity, DDR/HBM, PCIe/CXL, networking, storage paths, power limits, thermals).
  • •Translate incomplete roadmap disclosures into explicit assumptions with confidence levels, alternate cases, and sensitivity ranges.
  • •Calibrate models using measured silicon behavior, performance counters, and platform telemetry to identify failing assumptions.
  • •Create executive-ready architecture diagrams and technical narratives that explain workload outcomes and quantify performance-per-watt and rack-density implications.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 175,000 - 300,000 annually

Key Requirements

  • •Deep hands-on experience in CPU microarchitecture, silicon performance, system architecture, or performance modeling.
  • •Strong knowledge of out-of-order pipelines, branch prediction, fetch/decode, execution back ends, and simultaneous multithreading.
  • •Expertise in cache, TLB, coherence, prefetching, memory controllers, NUMA, and bandwidth/latency/capacity scaling.
  • •Experience using hardware performance counters, profiling tools, microbenchmarks, system telemetry, and bottleneck analysis.
  • •Strong quantitative and scripting/data-analysis skills to reason from incomplete information and make assumptions explicit with confidence.
