Job Summary

Serve as a player-coach deputy chief underwriter for FHA-insured healthcare and multifamily transactions. Independently underwrite complex deals, while leading and coaching Senior Underwriters and the broader FHA underwriting team through workflow direction, quality control, and training. Partner with the Chief Underwriter, originators, and HUD to ensure disciplined risk management, timely approvals, and strong client experience across the FHA pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead and manage the FHA Underwriting Team by assigning transactions, balancing workload, and overseeing pipeline data and timelines.
•Independently underwrite complex FHA-insured transactions while overseeing quality control of underwriting narratives and HUD-form documentation.
•Provide risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and deal structuring recommendations; ensure waivers are identified and requested from HUD.
•Maintain HUD and regulatory governance by tracking Lien Guide and HUD Mortgagee Letter updates and supporting audit readiness.
•Serve as a hands-on problem solver on deal calls and interface with borrowers, HUD staff, and external clients as needed.

Travel: Low travel

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 128,000 - 268,000 annually

Key Requirements

•7+ years underwriting FHA-insured multifamily loans, including 3+ years in a supervisory or senior leadership capacity.
•Current LEAN-approved Underwriter status with HUD.
•Expertise in analyzing market-rate and affordable multifamily FHA transactions using the LEAN Guide and HUD underwriting fundamentals.
•Experience preparing, reviewing, and quality-controlling HUD-required loan documentation, including underwriting narratives and firm commitment applications.
•Proficiency in financial modeling and advanced Excel-based analysis; Bachelor’s degree required.
