Job Summary

Lead field operations for Protection and Control testing and commissioning across utility substations and bulk electrical power systems in Texas and Louisiana. Perform hands-on protective relay testing with Omicron and Doble test sets, independently validate advanced test sequences, and ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Serve as a senior field liaison, lead field crews, mentor technicians, manage site readiness and logistics, and document results using digital tools and mobile applications.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead field operations for protection and control testing and commissioning on high-voltage substation and power system projects.
•Perform on-site hands-on protective relay testing and independently execute/validate advanced testing sequences aligned to test plans and specifications.
•Follow safety protocols, lead job hazard assessments and quality control procedures, and ensure contractor compliance with safety and environmental controls.
•Lead field crews by assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and mentoring junior/mid-level technicians in technical procedures and documentation.
•Act as a primary liaison with clients, contractors, vendors, and project leadership; document results using field forms/digital tools and support incident response and continuous improvement.

Key Requirements

•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Minimum of 11 years of experience in electrical testing, including medium/high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing.
•Expertise with transmission/generation/distribution relays and protective schemes (e.g., SEL, Basler, Beckwith, GE families).
•Advanced protective relay skills including relay calibration using Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, CT/PT sensing circuit testing, and microprocessor relay settings upload.
•Proven knowledge of field testing standards and software used for testing and data review (e.g., NETA, IEEE, NFPA; ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, AcSELerator Quickset).
