Key Responsibilities

  • •Own the architecture of the vehicle software system and drive a modular, versioned design across onboard software, GNC/state estimation, sensing, vehicle management, and mission autonomy.
  • •Lead hardest cross-disciplinary robotics problems end to end while anticipating future missions and minimizing cost of change.
  • •Set standards for robotics software build, test, and validation using quality metrics, and diagnose issues so problems surface on a bench instead of at sea.
  • •Improve autonomy and vehicle behaviors for reliable long, continuous missions with minimal intervention.
  • •Own end-to-end fault management and vehicle health, including detection, isolation, recovery (FDIR), safe-state and abort-to-surface behaviors, and graceful degradation.

Key Requirements

  • •8+ years building robotics or autonomous-systems software, including 5–7 years in commercial production robotics shipping at scale with staff-level technical leadership.
  • •Deep experience architecting vehicle or autonomy software that remained robust, modular, and scalable as it grew.
  • •Strong fundamentals in C++ and/or Python, with hands-on experience with ROS or ROS 2 on real hardware.
  • •Depth in GNC, state estimation, sensor fusion, or mission autonomy, with breadth across the rest.
  • •Experience building fault detection and recovery (FDIR), health monitoring, and safe-state behaviors for unattended, safety-critical operations.
  • •Comfort commuting to the Richmond, CA office regularly.
