Key Responsibilities

  • •Define and lead communications strategy for OpenAI’s cybersecurity work, from global narrative development through launches, research, threat reporting, and sustained storytelling.
  • •Build a clear, differentiated story about how OpenAI strengthens cyber defense while developing and deploying advanced capabilities responsibly.
  • •Lead communications for major cybersecurity products, model capabilities, research, partnerships, policy initiatives, and company milestones.
  • •Partner across Product and Research Communications and teams including Security, Preparedness, Safety, Global Affairs, Go-to-Market, Legal, and Marketing to deliver coordinated communications across channels.
  • •Own media engagement and advise senior leadership on positioning, messaging, launch strategy, reputation, and communications for high-visibility or fast-moving security issues.

Key Requirements

  • •12+ years of communications experience with deep experience in cybersecurity, security technology, threat intelligence, national security, infrastructure, or another highly technical field.
  • •Strong press instincts and relationships, with a track record of shaping narratives and earning meaningful coverage in cybersecurity, technology, policy, or business media.
  • •Enough technical fluency to work credibly with security researchers, engineers, threat analysts, product leaders, and technical journalists.
  • •Experience communicating consequential products, research, threat findings, vulnerabilities, incidents, or policy issues in high-scrutiny environments.
  • •Exceptional judgment around accuracy, transparency, confidentiality, and the risks created by imprecise language.
