Job Summary

Provide deep technical grounding for the education team’s AI policy work by monitoring AI safety, governance, and regulatory developments across federal agencies and AI governance bodies. Translate emerging AI governance frameworks into actionable analysis, briefings, and points of view for leadership and program strategy teams. Build and sustain relationships across academia, civil society, government, and the technology sector to strengthen the foundation’s policy influence and credibility.

Key Responsibilities

•Serve as the internal resource on AI safety, governance, regulation, and technology policy by monitoring and advising on developments and translating implications for education stakeholders and the foundation’s agenda.
•Collaborate with the senior program officer for AI and data infrastructure to strengthen the team’s AI policy perspectives.
•Rapidly synthesize technical and regulatory context, identifying what is known/uncertain and the strategic implications for the foundation’s work.
•Create analytical products, briefings, and policy points of view that translate complex AI governance and technology policy into actionable implications.
•Advise program strategy teams and engage with partners, AI governance organizations, federal agencies, and multistakeholder forums while building new stakeholder relationships.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 190,100 - 294,700 annually

Key Requirements

•Advanced degree or equivalent demonstrated experience.
•Significant experience in technology policy, AI governance, or a closely related field, including expertise in how AI systems are developed, deployed, and governed.
•Mastery-level knowledge of the AI governance landscape, including federal/state regulatory activity, industry self-regulatory frameworks, and emerging international standards.
•Ability to translate complex technical and regulatory developments into clear, actionable analysis for diverse audiences with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Comfort operating in a shifting policy environment and building durable, nonpartisan relationships across federal administrations and state political contexts.
