Key Responsibilities

  • •Monitor production, QA, and development databases on AWS daily for health, performance, and availability, and respond to monitoring alerts with root-cause analysis and resolution.
  • •Execute scheduled and ad hoc maintenance tasks (table reorganization, index rebuilding, statistics gathering, schema/tablespace management) and perform admin actions on Linux EC2 and AWS RDS under Lead DBA guidance.
  • •Run and validate backup, recovery, and continuity processes (RMAN/pg_basebackup/pgBackRest/mysqldump/Percona XtraBackup), including point-in-time and restore verification in non-production.
  • •Identify performance bottlenecks and assist with query tuning and index health using platform-appropriate diagnostics tools and execution plan review.
  • •Write and maintain automation scripts for recurring tasks (logging, space checks, backup verification), manage automated schedules (cron/pgAgent/etc.), and document procedures/runbooks while collaborating with developers and QA.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus 4 years of hands-on database administration experience.
  • •Primary expertise in PostgreSQL on Linux/AWS RDS, MySQL on Linux/AWS RDS, or Oracle 19c on Linux (multi-platform experience is a plus).
  • •Working knowledge of backup and recovery strategies for your primary database platform (pg_basebackup/pgBackRest, Percona XtraBackup, or Oracle RMAN).
  • •Hands-on experience with database performance diagnostics and tuning (EXPLAIN/EXPLAIN ANALYZE, query plan analysis, wait event analysis, index tuning).
  • •Practical UNIX/Linux systems administration and shell scripting (bash/ksh), plus AWS-hosted database exposure (EC2 and/or AWS RDS) and database security fundamentals (privileges/RBAC/auditing).
