Key Responsibilities

•Set the technical direction for the data platform by evolving the warehouse, data lake, and ETL/ELT architecture as patient and customer usage grows.
•Drive critical data projects end-to-end by writing design documents, shipping iteratively (v0 to v1+), and ensuring correctness and operability.
•Support AI/ML efforts by providing the data needed for models and workflows.
•Multiply the team through mentoring, reviewing designs and PRs, and making judgment calls on quality vs. shipping speed.
•Eventually act as team lead: break down/delegate work, unblock teammates, own delivery, and participate in sprint planning, retros, and on-call.

Key Requirements

•8+ years building and scaling data platforms processing terabytes of data and millions-to-billions of events per day.
•Design data architectures end-to-end (ingestion, storage, processing, warehousing, serving) with owned tradeoffs across cost, latency, correctness, and operability.
•Deep experience with cloud-native data stacks and lakehouse/warehouse ecosystems, including Spark, open table formats (Parquet, Iceberg, Delta) on S3, dbt, Airflow or Dagster, and streaming (Kafka, Kinesis).
•Strong software engineering fundamentals with experience writing production code (TypeScript and/or Python in data/ML workflows).
•Located in San Francisco/Bay Area or willing to relocate; experience mentoring/guiding engineers is expected.
