Job Summary

Lead hands-on, client-facing HVAC and heat rejection design for data center and mission-critical projects across AECOM’s east region. Own cooling system selection, HVAC redundancy/fault-tolerance design, heat load calculations, and capacity planning to support current and future IT loads. Apply internal and external CFD analyses to optimize airflow and hotspot behavior, and coordinate HVAC integration with electrical infrastructure, UPS, emergency power, and fire suppression systems.

Key Responsibilities

•Develop and design heat rejection and HVAC systems for data centers, accounting for cooling type, loads, phased operation, airflow management, humidity control, redundancy, and energy efficiency.
•Select data center cooling systems (e.g., fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water, DX/CRAC, in-row cooling, and containment solutions) based on data center requirements.
•Conduct internal and external CFD simulations to optimize airflow distribution, analyze transient hotspots, recommend design modifications, and coordinate model changes with other trades.
•Design HVAC systems with redundancy and fault-tolerant features, including backup cooling, automatic switchover, and monitoring.
•Perform heat load calculations and capacity planning for current and future equipment, plus HVAC loads for admin and common areas.

Travel: Low travel

•Knowledge of data center standards and topology (e.g., Uptime Institute TER Standard Topology, TIA 942, ANSI/BICSI 002).
