Job Summary

Build and operate internal AI platform services that power chat/agent interfaces, retrieval over code and docs, AI-integrated developer workflows, and sandboxed code execution. Own end-to-end integrations with GitLab and internal systems, design the AI gateway (routing, credentials, access policy, telemetry), and deliver observability and cost tracking. Key Responsibilities

•Design, ship, and operate internal AI products and platform services (chat/agent interfaces, retrieval over code/docs, AI developer workflows).
•Build AI-native workflows in GitLab, including agents that generate merge requests and respond to review comments.
•Create sandboxes and policy-enforced isolated environments for safe model-generated code execution with humans and hardware in the loop.
•Implement AI observability and cost tracking (request-level telemetry, usage analytics, cost attribution) and maintain the AI gateway layer (routing, credential management, access policy, telemetry).
•Partner with security/compliance to translate boundary requirements into system design, contribute technical evidence for compliance documentation, and operate the AI stack (monitoring, upgrades, incident response, continuous improvement).

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 185,000 - 215,000 annually

Key Requirements

•Several years building, shipping, and operating production software with proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, or TypeScript, plus Terraform.
•Hands-on experience building LLM-powered systems (retrieval pipelines, tool use/MCP, agent orchestration, prompt/context management, evaluation).
•Developer-platform integration experience using Git-hosting APIs, webhooks, and CI/CD to embed AI into engineers’ existing workflows.
•Cloud and Kubernetes engineering experience building and operating the infrastructure the systems run on (e.g., containers, Helm, Terraform, GKE, IAM).
•Ability to design and build in a regulated environment by eliciting constraints, creating observable and auditable systems, and communicating clearly to technical and executive audiences.
