Job Summary

Join Thales as a Machine Technician in Belfast to support the manufacture and inspection of high‑precision missile components and tooling. You’ll set up and operate CNC machines, program on the shop floor, diagnose program errors, monitor SPC data, ensure calibration and quality, and train others in effective methods, all within a continuous improvement environment and with opportunities for development across defence and space technologies.

Key Responsibilities

•Set up and operate major plant equipment including CNC machine tools in a high-volume production environment to manufacture high-precision missile components and tooling
•Perform shop-floor programming using MDIs and G codes to create CNC programs for R&D hardware and tooling, updating manufacturing engineering to maintain traceability
•Conduct step-by-step prove-out of programs, diagnosing errors to prevent damage to equipment and ensure correct component manufacture
•Record and analyse SPC data to resolve machining process issues and maintain quality control
•Calibrate and perform plausibility checks on post-process gauing to ensure correct part measurements and calibration compliance

Key Requirements

•Apprenticeship as a turner or skilled machinist, with post-apprenticeship experience; mill/turn or multi-axis experience is advantageous
•Ability to read technical drawings and apply information to programming and operation of CNC machine tools
•Experience with CNC machining and associated tooling; ability to set up and operate major plant equipment in a high-volume production environment
•Skill in shop floor programming using MDIs and G codes to create CNC programmes and edit them during prove-out and production
•Proven ability to diagnose errors in programs to prevent damage to equipment and ensure correct manufacture of components
