Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead initiatives to produce an industry-leading search engine by building new search features and improving search relevance and performance.
  • •Contribute to Elasticsearch full time by implementing algorithms/data structures, fixing bugs, and improving code readability.
  • •Work with a globally distributed team on vector search capabilities for Elasticsearch.
  • •Identify and drive improvements in search relevance based on expertise, questions, and instincts.

Key Requirements

  • •Experience implementing novel techniques in vector similarity on a large-scale search platform or advanced academic research in vector similarity information retrieval.
  • •Professional experience with search or vector databases, including using algorithms such as HNSW, IVF, or similar libraries at scale.
  • •Strong core Java skills, including data structures, concurrency constructs, and modern Java features like lambdas.
  • •Ability to take ownership of projects end-to-end, including technical design and collaborating with other engineers to build required components.
  • •Experience using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while still owning outcomes.
