Design and deliver scalable back-end systems for iwoca’s Finance Technology team, including payment microservices, direct debits, and reporting infrastructure. •Contribute high-quality, production-ready code; review others’ work, troubleshoot live issues, and write useful documentation.
•Work with the Tech Lead to improve development and Agile practices, raise the technical bar, and share new technologies and best practices.

Key Requirements

•Proven experience building and running microservices and distributed systems in production, with strong reasoning about cross-service communication, transactional correctness, and failure modes.
•Extensive relational database experience, ideally PostgreSQL (open to MySQL, MS SQL, or Oracle) with emphasis on data integrity.
•Experience managing delivery of complex projects implemented by several engineers and leading feature development from 0-1 in a startup/scale-up/SME environment.
•Use AI tools like Cursor or Claude Code in your daily workflow for boilerplate, research, and focusing on hard architecture and high-stakes decision-making.
•Proven experience building and managing complex API integrations, e.g., Payments (Stripe/Braintree) or high-scale integrations in industries like Telecoms, Travel, or Ad-Tech.
