Job Summary

Senior Road Engineer based in Leeds leads highway design projects within the Roads team, using civil engineering expertise to deliver high-quality designs on time and within budget. You’ll mentor junior staff, support project planning and cost estimation, check and certify designs, and collaborate with clients and internal teams. Proficiency with Civil 3D, OpenRoads, and drainage tools is expected to drive technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

•Support highway design development for a diverse set of sectors, clients and projects through all stages of the project life cycle.
•Ensure projects are delivered to budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements.
•Provide guidance and support to junior staff, mentoring and upskilling to progress towards professional qualifications.
•Contribute to the development of the team’s internal knowledge base.
•Support Project Managers with planning, programming, and technical input to pricing, proposals, deliverables and cost estimation.
•Check, certify and authorize designs, documents, approvals and reports.
•Coordinate engineering resources to deliver work packages and collaborate with clients and internal teams.
•On ad hoc basis, provide site supervision and ensure contractor compliance with contract and Works Information.

Key Requirements

•A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent within a highway design role.
•Working towards IEng or CEng status with a professional institute; professional qualifications are advantageous.
•Relevant knowledge and experience of highway design and/or drainage systems across project life cycles; areas include road geometry, roundabouts, junctions, inclusive active travel, drainage, road restraint systems and traffic sign/road marking design.
•Proficiency in design codes such as the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, and local authority guidance; ability to prepare drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals.
•Experience using software including Autodesk Civils 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfoDrainage and/or PDS.
