Key Responsibilities

  • •Provide senior, practical employment-law advice to stakeholders across GitLab while balancing legal risk and business objectives.
  • •Manage matters across the employment lifecycle, including recruiting/onboarding, compensation, performance, leave, employee relations, works council processes, separation, and post-employment issues.
  • •Negotiate and consult with works councils and employee representative bodies across EMEA jurisdictions for organizational change.
  • •Represent GitLab (or manage outside counsel) in labor courts, employment tribunals, and agency investigations, including case strategy and settlement decisions.
  • •Develop and continuously improve scalable employment-law processes, systems, playbooks, templates, and documentation for the Legal and People teams.

Key Requirements

  • •A Juris Doctor (JD), Bachelor of Laws (LLB), or local equivalent, admitted to practice in at least one EMEA jurisdiction.
  • •Substantial firsthand experience advising a multinational company with works councils across EMEA, including direct negotiation and consultation.
  • •Experience advocating or managing outside counsel in labor courts, employment tribunals, and analogous proceedings.
  • •Deep knowledge of employment compliance requirements across EMEA, including knowing when to involve local counsel.
  • •Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating employment agreements, separation agreements, and related policies across multiple jurisdictions.
