Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead the Rochester process engineering team to identify opportunities to improve equipment overall equipment effectiveness (availability – unplanned downtime, performance – fermentation kinetics, quality – solids target); drive continuous improvement with scientific method and lean principles to eliminate waste.
  • •Apply deep knowledge in aseptic processing to identify and reduce contamination sources and improve processing step reliability; collaborate with Engineering to design and implement improved process equipment as needed for new processes.
  • •Develop capital plans to deliver business growth and cost efficiency in line with the overall capital strategy.
  • •Conduct techno-economic analyses and technical feasibility studies including heat and energy balances; support R&D/process science during pilot and production trials.
  • •Lead capital projects typically under $500k from initiation to installation with subcontractor management; ensure safety, environment, quality, and food safety; produce documentation including PFDs, P&IDs, site/floor plans, elevation drawings, and utilities matrices.

Key Requirements

  • •Minimum BS in Engineering with at least 7 years of engineering experience, preferably in the food, chemical, or pharmaceutical industry.
  • •Expert knowledge of manufacturing systems including fermentation, sterilization, spray drying, evaporation, and sub-systems such as refrigeration, wet scrubbers, high voltage power, electric motors/drives, standby power, fluid dynamics with pump/piping/filtration, PLCs, and SCADA; ability to learn new processes quickly.
  • •Experience with capital projects, typically under $500k, including project initiation, scope, design, cost estimation, equipment procurement, installation, and subcontractor management; ensure safety, environment, quality, and food safety compliance.
  • •Experience in aseptic processing, contamination reduction, and improving reliability of processing steps; ability to design and implement improved process equipment with engineering.
  • •Ability to conduct techno-economic analyses and technical feasibility studies, including heat and energy balances; provide engineering support to R&D/process science during pilot and production trials.
