Key Responsibilities

  • •Learn, demonstrate capability/knowledge, and become certified in farm department areas, including breeding/farrowing and nursery/finishing responsibilities.
  • •Gain proficiency implementing company systems for pig production, including animal flow, farm health, genetics, and husbandry.
  • •Perform and master hourly jobs under supervision and become certified in each after demonstrating competence.
  • •Comply with environmental laws and Smithfield policies (IPS, biosecurity, animal welfare, EMS), and report environmental/animal care/biosecurity issues immediately.
  • •Progress through the Manager Training development program, complete Leadership Certification, and serve as acting HOD as needed; be on call for emergencies (alarm calls, severe weather, power outages, staffing shortages, environmental emergencies).

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or a related agricultural field, or currently enrolled with anticipated graduation by the end of the current semester.
  • •Ability to work an average 48-hour week, with weekend, evening, and holiday work as needed.
  • •Willingness and ability to relocate to complete training and assume the first managerial assignment.
  • •Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft software.
  • •Ability to learn and perform animal husbandry tasks (e.g., euthanasia, castration, vaccinations, piglet processing, ear tagging, blood samples) and tolerate farm conditions (dust/odors/dander).
