Job Summary

Lead drill and blast technical delivery to support the mine plan and optimize downstream performance, with a strong focus on fragmentation outcomes. Oversee drill and blast design, data management, QA/QC systems (including BlastIQ), and the reporting of key performance indicators. Mentor and train the Drill and Blast Technical and Operations team, manage contractor performance, and collaborate with geotechnical and cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement and new monitoring technologies on-site.

Key Responsibilities

•Manage the development and implementation of drill and blast designs and blast optimization initiatives to deliver the mine plan.
•Plan, design, monitor, and report on drill and blast activities, including short-, medium-, and long-term bench master plans and schedules.
•Manage electronic QA/QC systems (BlastIQ) and use monitoring technologies to track fragmentation, heave, movement, wall quality/accuracy, and productivity.
•Provide mentoring, training, and leadership to the Drill and Blast Technical and Operations team to ensure technical excellence and safe operating practices.
•Liaise with cross-functional teams (including geotechnical) to design and optimize wall control blasting techniques and deliver mine optimization strategies focused on fragmentation optimization.

Key Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology/Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
•Minimum 10 years of drill and blast engineering experience in open pit mining.
•Advanced competency in blast design and mine planning software (e.g., SHOTPlus, MineSight, Surpac; Deswick, MinePlan).
•Proven capability using electronic QA/QC systems to monitor in-field drill and blast execution.
•Experience leading and mentoring engineers and managing teams of 10+ engineers.
