Job Summary

Design, implement, and optimize Elasticsearch’s core storage and query engine for observability workloads. You’ll lead the architectural evolution of storage engine components, drive cross-organizational initiatives, and tackle performance bottlenecks across indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization. Work with a globally distributed, fully remote engineering team using modern Java to improve ES|QL query processing and performance, data layouts for object storage, and overall platform clarity.

Key Responsibilities

•Design, implement, and optimize Elasticsearch core storage engine and query engine components.
•Lead architectural evolution of storage engine components and continuously resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
•Lead cross-organizational initiatives to build observability solutions for logs and metrics capabilities.
•Drive operational and system improvements by applying clean coding standards and untangling complex system behaviors across the platform.
•Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor/advise the wider engineering organization while triaging and resolving issues and pull requests.

Salary: EUR 85,600 - 135,500 annually

Key Requirements

•Experience building high-performance, scalable database, search, or distributed systems with a strong focus on storage, indexing, query execution, and performance optimization.
•Strong core Java skills, including deep understanding of concurrency primitives and ability to design and optimize data structures and algorithms.
•Experience implementing novel techniques to efficiently index, store, and query time-series or logs data.
•Experience with one or more data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
•Ability to collaborate across teams in a distributed environment and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
