Job Summary

Build and evolve Amplitude’s analytics compute platform, including the query/compute engine, compute API, and semantic layer. You’ll improve performance, reliability, and scalability of query planning and execution, unify the core data model (event and non-event data), and partner across Session Replay, Experiment, CDP, Query, and frontend teams. Own projects end-to-end from design through rollout.

•Design and build core parts of the query/compute engine powering analysis across Amplitude’s product suite.
•Evolve the compute API and semantic layer so other teams can build features on top of it.
•Unify and evolve the core data model, representing non-event data alongside event data.
•Improve performance, reliability, and scalability of query planning and execution on the Amplitude query engine.
•Partner across Session Replay, Experiment, CDP, Query, and frontend to shape the compute layer around team needs.

•Strong backend or distributed-systems engineering experience, ideally touching OLAP databases, query engines, or data infrastructure.
•Experience with SQL, query planning/execution, or building APIs many other teams depend on.
•Ability to reason about tradeoffs between flexibility, performance, and ease of use, making deliberate engineering decisions.
•A track record of owning ambiguous, cross-team projects end-to-end rather than only executing well-scoped tickets.
•Strong cross-functional collaboration skills to deliver compute capabilities that enable downstream products.
