Job Summary

Support the Houston Substation team with technical electrical design and CADD drafting for utility-scale low to extra-high voltage substations. Prepare protection one-line diagrams, SCADA and communications deliverables, control enclosure details, and calculation-driven components such as voltage-drop and station battery sizing. Produce accurate design packages (drawing sets, models, specifications, material lists), perform QA/QC, collaborate cross-discipline, and attend occasional client site visits.

Key Responsibilities

•Provide technical design and CADD support for utility-scale substation projects by generating accurate design phase deliverables such as drawing packages, technical memoranda, models, details, specifications, and material lists.
•Under general supervision, produce protection one-line diagrams, SCADA and communications items, control enclosure designs/details, and calculation components including voltage-drop, conduit fill, and station battery sizing.
•Under limited supervision, develop detailed substation designs including AC 3-line diagrams, DC schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and cable and conduit schedules.
•Verify accuracy of calculations and design work, support change-order and interpretation reviews, and escalate errors or technical problems for resolution.
•Collaborate with cross-discipline teams, support QA/QC for client deliverables, and attend occasional client site visits related to projects.

Key Requirements

•High School Diploma.
•Minimum 7 years of relevant post-education experience in the discipline, with prior drafting and design support experience.
•Knowledge of substation protection schemes/concepts and electrical utility protection standards and practices.
•Knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
•Ability to perform technical computations and calculations and to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
