Job Summary

Conduct radiobiology research on FLASH radiotherapy by studying ultra-high dose rate effects of protons and photons in radioresistant tumor models. Use in vitro systems (2D cell lines, 3D spheroids, patient-derived organoids) and an in vivo chick embryo model to examine DNA damage repair and survival pathways and identify proteins and mechanisms behind normal tissue sparing. Analyze results, plan experiments, publish findings, and support supervision of students within the RadNet Birmingham centre.

Key Responsibilities

•Work within the specified research grant and project on radiobiology and FLASH.
•Characterise molecular and cellular impacts of FLASH delivery of protons and photons in normal versus tumour tissues using in vitro and in vivo models.
•Acquire, analyse, and interpret research data; contribute to developing new models, techniques, and methods.
•Disseminate research findings through publications, seminars, and scientific conferences.
•Contribute to planning key decisions for future experiments and assist in supervision and guidance for PhD, masters, undergraduate students and supporting staff.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: GBP 36,636 - 48,822 annually

Key Requirements

•PhD (or near to completion) in radiation biology, cancer biology, molecular biology (or another relevant discipline).
•Substantial laboratory expertise in molecular and cellular biology techniques, with experience running diverse laboratory experiments.
•Evidence of playing a key role in a leading-edge scientific research project and prior research productivity.
•Strong project planning, organisational and time-management skills to meet research objectives and deadlines.
•Excellent data acquisition, recording, scientific writing, and communication skills, including delivering oral presentations.
