Design and build core compiler infrastructure in Rust, create search-based optimization systems to discover faster kernels, and develop backend code generation for multiple targets (NVIDIA, Trainium, AMD, TPU). You’ll implement compiler passes, profile real models to reduce latency, and shape Luminal’s engineering culture as a founding member in San Francisco.

Key Responsibilities

•Design and implement the core compiler infrastructure and contribute to long-term architectural decisions.
•Develop and optimize backend code generation for multiple targets (NVIDIA, Trainium, AMD, TPU, etc.).
•Create and refine compiler passes for fusion, scheduling, memory planning, and kernel selection.
•Profile real models to identify bottlenecks and improve latency and throughput.
•Help shape Luminal’s engineering culture and processes as a founding engineer.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 200,000 - 350,000 annually

Equity and Bonus:Equity

Key Requirements

•Experience with compiler frameworks: LLVM, MLIR, or other custom compilers.
•Hands-on experience with at least one GPU ISA: PTX/SASS, GCN/RDNA assembly, or similar.
•Familiarity with ML compilers: torch.compile, XLA, TVM, etc.
•Strong systems programming and performance optimization skills.
•Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment and contribute to core compiler design.
