Key Responsibilities

  • •Identify and assess legal issues and risks for assigned responsibility areas and recommend appropriate courses of action.
  • •Interact with internal leadership on legal strategies, scenario plans, and desired outcomes.
  • •Negotiate contract terms, settlements, mediation, and agreements, including post-closing/settlement requirements.
  • •Retain and manage outside counsel when in-house expertise is insufficient and retention is justified.
  • •Research legislative history and legal issues to maintain up-to-date knowledge of laws, regulations, case precedents, and regulatory orders; draft and negotiate complex pipeline-related contracts and provide compliance monitoring and training.

Key Requirements

  • •Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school and at least 10 years of relevant legal or energy experience.
  • •Member of the State Bar Association and admitted to practice in the state hired (or eligible to become admitted within one year), with current CLE compliance.
  • •Significant experience with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and Natural Gas Act matters, including tariffs, rate cases, and drafting and filing pleadings with the FERC.
  • •Experience drafting and negotiating agency communications, contracts, motions, briefs, pleadings, and opinions.
  • •Proven negotiation, legal research, and analytical/problem-solving skills for complex matters and regulatory requirements.
