Job Summary

Support Mastercard’s regulatory strategy and advise on regulatory matters across Southern Africa and the EEMEA region. Engage proactively with regulatory authorities, manage timely regulatory filings and responses, provide regulatory guidance to internal stakeholders, and help defend the company in regulator proceedings. Identify and mitigate regulatory risks by assessing controls, and collaborate closely with Government Affairs & Policy, PAIR (Privacy, AI and Data Responsibility), and Regional Counsel teams.

Key Responsibilities

•Support the development and execution of regulatory strategy for Southern Africa and identified business verticals within EEMEA.
•Engage with regulatory authorities to advance Mastercard’s business strategy and respond in line with internal processes.
•Manage timely submission of regulatory filings/submissions and develop responses to regulatory requests.
•Provide regulatory advice and guide the organization on regulatory matters at a Southern Africa and EEMEA level.
•Anticipate and evaluate regulatory risk in Southern Africa (and where relevant EEMEA) and support teams with controls to mitigate risks, including participation in regulatory proceedings.

Key Requirements

•LLB or JD from an established and reputable law school.
•Deep understanding of the South African and broader Southern African regulatory environment.
•Fluency in English (written and spoken).
•Experience in a regulatory position in a corporation, association, or government context and/or as a regulatory attorney (preferably in payments, banking, fintech, or financial services).
•Knowledge of financial and/or payments systems regulations, including applying for and managing regulatory licenses.
