Key Responsibilities

  • •Deliver full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility and concept design through detailed design, installation support, and commissioning.
  • •Review complex HVAC and HVDC cable system designs, including route development, burial risk assessments, and thermal/electromagnetic/mechanical calculations.
  • •Undertake cable rating and system studies such as ampacity, short circuit forces, thermal stability, and electromagnetic interference analysis.
  • •Support cable installation readiness through feasibility studies for pulling, jointing, and cleating; and participate in installation and commissioning activities.
  • •Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and manage compliance verification with standards (IEC, CIGRÉ, National Grid TPs) via third-party inspections and supplier/manufacturer interfaces.

Key Requirements

  • •Strong experience in Cable System Design Engineering for HV/EHV transmission and distribution projects, with FEED experience essential.
  • •Experience in regulated, quality-assured environments, preferably with National Grid experience.
  • •Good understanding of onshore cable routing, cable pulling/mechanical forces, cable burial risk assessments, and protection strategies.
  • •Knowledge of electromagnetic, thermal, stability analysis, cable cleating, and short-circuit restraint for cable systems.
  • •Minimum HNC qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
