Key Responsibilities

  • •Assist with the set-up, servicing, and development of apparatus for undergraduate teaching experiments and demonstrations in the physics laboratories.
  • •Supervise day-to-day activities of technical staff if in a supervisory position, and act as a role model/coach for staff in the locality.
  • •Plan daily class turnaround using available timetabling, research and modify practical protocols, and ensure session layouts and requirements are in place.
  • •Provide high-level technical instruction and support for safe equipment handling by students and teaching staff, including preparation, analysis methods, and preparation techniques.
  • •Perform troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, and diagnostics to repair/replace/restock electronic, mechanical, optical, and vacuum equipment; support health and safety compliance and records.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: GBP 30,062 - 31,900 annually

Key Requirements

  • •Experience with techniques used in a physical science laboratory, including electronics (design, PCB manufacture and repair).
  • •Experience with mechanical design, CAD, machine-shop techniques, and instruments such as oscilloscopes and signal generators.
  • •In-depth practical knowledge of relevant technical and scientific methods and extensive experience with laboratory-based work and equipment.
  • •Ability to work under minimal supervision and function as part of a team with excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • •GCSE level 2 (A*- C/4-9) or equivalent in mathematics and English (or equivalent level 2 qualification).
