Job Summary

Design, implement, and optimize Elasticsearch’s core storage and query engine for observability workloads. You’ll lead the architectural evolution of storage engine components, improve indexing layouts and serialization formats, and tackle performance bottlenecks. Working with a globally distributed remote team, you’ll drive cross-functional observability initiatives, serve as an SME/mentor, and write idiomatic modern Java to improve storage efficiency and ES|QL query execution.

Key Responsibilities

•Design and optimize Elasticsearch’s core storage and query engine, improving storage efficiency and ES|QL query processing and performance.
•Lead the architectural evolution of storage engine components and resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
•Drive cross-organizational initiatives to build industry-leading observability solutions in collaboration with the logs and metrics teams.
•Introduce best practices for clean coding standards and untangle complex system behaviors to bring architectural clarity.
•Serve as an SME by triaging, resolving, and reviewing issues and pull requests, and mentoring the wider engineering organization.

Salary: NOK 791,300 - 1,251,700

Key Requirements

•Experience building high-performance, scalable database/search/distributed systems with a focus on storage, indexing, query execution, and performance optimization.
•Strong core Java skills, including deep understanding of concurrency primitives and ability to design/optimize data structures and algorithms.
•Proven track record using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while owning final outcomes.
•Ability to design and apply techniques to efficiently index, store, and query time-series or logs data.
•Experience with one or more data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
