Key Responsibilities

  • •Oversee music business and legal affairs, including music clearance and licensing matters during production and for marketing/PR campaigns.
  • •Support production partners with negotiating music deals (e.g., composer/artist/songwriter, music supervisor, clearances, worldwide public domain assessments, waivers) and handle certain music deals in-house.
  • •Negotiate, structure, and draft music-related commercial terms and agreements with creators and rights holders (e.g., composers, songwriters, artists, record companies, music publishers) and clear music/execute licensing contracts.
  • •Provide music business and legal guidance to internal teams by negotiating and drafting music terms in production services agreements, content licenses, and other rights acquisition deals, including cue sheet and song credit guidance.
  • •Manage music issues under tight timelines by evaluating risk with incomplete information and presenting music educational sessions to internal teams and external partners.

Key Requirements

  • •5+ years of music production experience for anime, series, film, or documentaries, including structuring, negotiating, and drafting composer, performer/featured artist, and soundtrack/music license agreements.
  • •In-depth knowledge of music copyright and the series/film production process, including music clearance/licensing through delivery (cue sheets, marketing, and launch).
  • •Practical knowledge of Japan’s music and entertainment industries, including CMOs such as JASRAC, and active relationships with agents, lawyers, managers, music publishers, and record companies.
  • •Experience providing in-house support in an anime, television, documentary, or film production company and/or network (preferred).
  • •Fluency in English and Japanese (written and spoken), with exceptional drafting and project management skills plus strong communication and organizational abilities.
