Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead HV substation technical discussions with clients and multidisciplinary teams, establishing scopes and interfaces for coordinated delivery.
  • •Direct technical delivery of HV substation design major projects, aligning approach with engineering teams and quality-checking deliverables before client issue.
  • •Apply lifecycle expertise across grid connection studies, concept design, FEED, and detailed design to deliver HV substation schemes.
  • •Develop resourcing forecasts and programmes with project management teams aligned to construction schedules and critical path milestones.
  • •Mentor and develop junior engineers to build HV substation design capability over the medium and long term.

Key Requirements

  • •Experience in consultancy, contractor, or utility roles within the energy sector, including UK or Ireland transmission stakeholders (e.g., National Grid, SHET, SSE, SPT).
  • •Proven delivery of HV infrastructure design across concept, FEED, and detailed design stages.
  • •Strong understanding of electrical AC HV plant and equipment (AIS and GIS), including switchgear, busbars, cabling, earthing, and civil interfaces.
  • •Working knowledge of National Grid standards and specifications.
  • •Proposal/bid development experience and design management with site construction review (primary focus on primary plant; protection, control, and SCADA beneficial).
