Key Responsibilities

  • •Conduct applied research on SX, DS, and EQ cast components for gas turbines by connecting casting processes to material properties and performance.
  • •Investigate casting processes and parameters to improve material quality, reliability, and manufacturability across foundry steps.
  • •Design and execute experimental test plans to evaluate defects and process improvements, and to characterize material properties and casting performance.
  • •Analyze cast component failures and conduct root cause investigations in collaboration with design and process engineers using fractography, metallography, and materials characterization.
  • •Evaluate material selection and specifications to inform component design, and document/present findings and recommendations for performance and durability improvements.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor’s degree in material science/materials engineering/weld engineering/metallurgical engineering or another engineering discipline

  • •Experience applying single crystal (SX), directionally solidified (DS), or equiaxed (EQ) casting technologies
  • •Hands-on experience in a high-production manufacturing environment
  • •Effective written and interpersonal communication skills
