Job Summary

Lead mechanical engineering design and analysis for complex defense systems in Rochester, guiding concept development, design reviews, and Design Authority tasks. Provide technical direction to engineers/technicians, ensure compliance with requirements, support risk reduction and qualification testing, and present detailed concepts to customers while working across multidisciplinary teams. Travel may be required; experience with CREO, Teamcenter, DOORS and JIRA is advantageous.

Job Function: Field Service, Maintenance & Skilled Trades

Key Responsibilities

•Generate design concepts and solutions from first principles to meet project and customer requirements; prepare and present concise Mechanical Development Plans and Design Scheme Data Packs for internal and customer review.
•Take a Design Authority role in checking and approving datasets (drawings/MBD) to ensure they reflect design intent, are correct to standards, and define parts for manufacture and inspection.
•Collaborate across engineering disciplines, liaising with technical specialists, and supporting Team Leads, Projects and Mechanical Functional Managers in preparing estimates for future design activities.
•Complete Design Authority level checks on the work of other mechanical engineers, including designs, design data, hand calculations and technical reports.
•Understand and govern adherence of Engineers and Technicians to departmental and company policies; may travel to customer sites for presentations and product installation surveys.

Travel: Low travel

Pay and Benefits

Salary: GBP 65,000 annually

Key Requirements

•Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of other qualifications and experience; UK-SPEC Chartered Engineer level qualifications preferred.
•Comprehensive experience of the full product design lifecycle within an engineering environment.
•Experience in preparing technical datasets (drawings/MBD) and design review datasets.
•Proficiency in CAD tools with CREO; experience with Teamcenter, DOORS, and JIRA would be advantageous.
•Experience in leading a mechanical or cross-discipline design team.
