Key Responsibilities

  • •Receive, evaluate, and underwrite complex life insurance applications up to the maximum handling limit.
  • •Develop and apply risk-based decision-making to determine evidence requirements, risk class, and acceptable underwriting decisions.
  • •Quantify risk using medical and financial underwriting information, including insurable interest and mortality/morbidity considerations.
  • •Negotiate reinsurance terms (automatic and facultative) within Nationwide treaty and product/market practices.
  • •Serve as a referral point for less experienced underwriters, supervise unusual cases, and help educate and train internal and external partners.

Key Requirements

  • •10 years life underwriting experience.
  • •Underwrite life insurance applications using medical or non-medical evidence up to the approved authority limit.
  • •Maintain in-depth knowledge of underwriting manuals, rules/regulations, and procedures impacting mortality and morbidity.
  • •Obtain the AALU designation; participation in/attainment of CLU and FLMI; EKG Certified preferred.
  • •Ability to evaluate complex financial underwriting and establish insurable interest in line with underwriting principles and policy language.
