Job Summary

Conduct immunology research on how Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) drives EBV-associated haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (EBV-HLH). Plan and deliver research aligned to the University strategy, execute the Histionode grant project, and analyze data to advance understanding of myeloid-derived suppressor cells and immune microenvironment changes. Contribute to funding, publish and present findings, supervise students, and support public engagement activities at the College and University.

Key Responsibilities

•Plan and deliver research in line with the University of Birmingham research strategy and the Histionode grant project.
•Develop research objectives and proposals, and contribute to writing bids for research funding.
•Collect research data using scientific experimentation, literature reviews, and research interviews; analyze and interpret findings.
•Disseminate research outputs through publication, research seminars, posters, and presentations.
•Supervise students and provide guidance to PhD students and any assisting staff; support management/administration and public engagement activities.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: GBP 36,636 - 46,049 annually

Key Requirements

•First degree in biological or biomedical sciences and a PhD (or near to completion) in immunology or virology.
•Extensive experience working with myeloid-derived suppressor cells, neutrophils and Epstein Barr virus.
•Fluency in optimising and performing high dimensional multicolour flow cytometry, culture of primary human lymphocytes, and analysis of large data sets.
•High level analytical capability.
•Ability to communicate complex information clearly.
