Key Responsibilities

  • •Develop innovative, cost-effective mechanical design solutions for process equipment using computer modeling and problem solving.
  • •Provide leadership to advance UOP knowledge in fluid and solid mechanics with emphasis on solid mechanics.
  • •Assess mechanical issues limiting process technology and target efforts to remove barriers.
  • •Conduct field troubleshooting studies for pressure vessels, reactors, specialty equipment, internals, and piping system problems.

Key Requirements

  • •Master’s in mechanical engineering (or M.S.) with 4–5 years relevant experience, or a PhD with 2–3 years of experience.
  • •Strong familiarity with FEM and applicability of boundary element methods.
  • •Proficiency with solid mechanics codes such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, and APDL (or equivalent).
  • •Knowledge of pressure vessel/structural/piping design codes including ASME Section VIII, AISC, ASME B31.3, and UBC.
  • •Knowledge of static and dynamic analysis for pressure vessels, piping systems, and support structures (e.g., COMPRES, CAESAR, WRC 107) and fitness-for-service tools (e.g., API 579, PREFIS, REACT).
