Job Summary

Deliver flood and coastal erosion risk work as part of WSP’s Sustainable Water Management team. You’ll appraise and develop outline and detailed engineering designs, lead assessments and optioneering for scour, coastal and river schemes, and contribute to projects supported by clients such as the Environment Agency, Network Rail, and local authorities. Expect hands-on work across concept to detailed design, including hydraulic structures and contractor-facing documentation.

Key Responsibilities

•Appraise and develop outline and detailed designs for engineering flood projects, including scour assessments and scour solutions, flood defences, and coastal engineering.
•Lead delivery of scour, coastal, river, and flood-related assessments, appraisals, optioneering, and design schemes from outline to detailed design.
•Design hydraulic structures (e.g., culverts, weirs, walls, outfalls, scour protection) for highways, rail, and property infrastructure projects.
•Prepare work schedules and specifications for contractors.
•Carry out scour assessments and asset inspection works for above and below-ground structures, working with Network Rail and local authorities.

Key Requirements

•Degree qualified in civil or flood risk engineering.
•Experience post degree in hydraulic designs associated with river or flood defence works.
•Knowledge of flood and river diversion design principles and solutions.
•Experience using CAD or Civil 3D.
•Site experience, ideally in a site supervision role.
