Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead the design and delivery of secure, cloud-based data platforms for UK Central Government departments.
  • •Develop target-state architectures and ensure they are implemented pragmatically within regulated, security-conscious environments.
  • •Apply modern and enterprise data architecture patterns (lakehouse, streaming/event-driven, data mesh/data fabric, and data product approaches).
  • •Oversee data engineering and platform considerations, including distributed processing, Hadoop components, and ETL/ELT trade-offs.
  • •Influence senior stakeholders and lead/mentor architects and engineers while aligning with governance and security requirements (including GDPR and public-sector data protection).

Key Requirements

  • •Recent experience as a Lead Data Architect / Data Solutions Architect (or equivalent senior role).
  • •Own end-to-end data platform design and delivery, including experience in consulting, systems integration, or delivery partner roles.
  • •Practical architecture experience across enterprise and modern data patterns (including lakehouse, streaming/event-driven, and data mesh/fabric principles).
  • •Strong data engineering and platform understanding, including distributed processing (e.g., Apache Spark), Hadoop ecosystem, and SQL/NoSQL plus ETL/ELT trade-offs.
  • •Experience designing for governance and security in regulated cloud environments, including GDPR and UK public sector data protection requirements; existing SC clearance is desirable.
