Job Summary

Operate the Emergency Communications Center by receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching fire, medical, and protective services, and routing response instructions using established procedures. Monitor and act on 911 reporting, fire alarms, and trouble/supervisory notifications, maintain daily and emergency logs in ACES-FD, and communicate via radio and public address. Complete scheduled proficiency training and support workload distribution and evacuation coordination.

Key Responsibilities

•Receive and process emergency and non-emergency information required to operate the Emergency Communications Center (ECC).
•Dispatch fire, medical, and protective services and personnel to aircraft, structural, hazardous materials, medical, security, and other emergencies per procedures.
•Handle routine and emergency phone calls, gather pertinent information, and provide caller-specific directions including Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) information.
•Receive and interpret trouble, supervisory, and fire alarms, determine required actions, and maintain daily and emergency logs and system outage status in ACES-FD.
•Communicate via radio, in-station public address, and telephone systems; initiate recall and notifications; conduct evacuation cordon/control point/staging/triage support; complete scheduled proficiency training.

Key Requirements

•High school diploma (or equivalent).
•Four years of full-time work experience directly related to a fire communications center or dispatching other emergency services.
•Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and computer-aided dispatching programs.
•Working knowledge of computerized fire alarm and reporting systems and understanding of FD/EMS operations and terminology.
•Certification as a Public Safety Telecommunicator I & II (or equivalent) with Hazardous Material Awareness; emergency medical dispatcher certification required/obtainable (APCO preferred), plus a valid state-issued driver’s license.
