Key Responsibilities

  • •Plan, execute, and characterize development engineering experiments in laboratory and manufacturing environments with strategic foresight.
  • •Improve solar cell efficiency and advance material selection and process/equipment design using engineering, scientific, or empirical methods.
  • •Apply statistical and engineering methods to optimize processes and develop state-of-the-art computer-aided and statistical analysis techniques.
  • •Determine and evaluate thermal tool/equipment specifications and may determine and evaluate material specifications for improved performance.
  • •Communicate effectively with internal/external partners; may train, mentor, and manage junior and peers; comply with Environmental/Quality/Safety policies and continuous improvement requirements.

Key Requirements

  • •Associate’s Degree in an engineering discipline (or similar technical discipline) with 20 years of relevant technical experience, or 2 years as a Development Engineer II at First Solar.
  • •Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline (or similar technical discipline) with 10 years of relevant technical experience, or 2 years as a Development Engineer II at First Solar.
  • •Master’s Degree in an engineering discipline (or similar technical discipline) with 8 years of relevant technical experience, or 2 years as a Development Engineer II at First Solar.
  • •Ph.D. in an engineering discipline (or similar technical discipline) with 5 years of relevant technical experience, or 2 years as a Development Engineer II at First Solar.
  • •Technical expertise in computer-aided analysis (thermal; multi-species gas flow; chemical reaction preferred) plus experience in photovoltaic processes/equipment development; CFD/CAD/meshing and programming experience required.
  • •Working knowledge of statistical software (JMP preferred) and firsthand experience in lab or manufacturing environments.
